Interviewing Customers No. 2

1. Fine tune your opportunity. I am focusing on a way to provide a more consistent wireless network on campus. The original idea was to provide a solution's to the struggle of charging laptops and phone, but people didn't seem to have as much an issue with that as they did with the WiFi.

2. Fine tune the "who". I didn't change too much who I was talking too. My original focus was anyone who uses the UF network, and I still am talking to those people.

3. Tweaking your interview questions. I focused more on the opportunity in particular this time. There experience with the UF network, and if they would want to switch to a better opportunity if it existed.

4. Interviews.

5. Tell us what you learned about the opportunity. People are definitely dissatisfied with the current UF network. They would also be willing to use or at least try another network if available.

6. Tell us what you learned about interviewing customers. I didn't do quiet as well of a job of asking open questions, and because of that I got very short responses.

  1. Your idea sounds great, and there is definitely an opportunity for it. I would almost encourage you to take your idea further to have the UF network accessible to off campus students or those that live in sorority or fraternity houses. Do you have a specific plan to create a better network? Like having more hotspots through out campus, or just having an increase in student fees to purchase larger bandwith on campus. 2. Dear Matthew,

I am an online student so I cannot speak to this problem based on personal experience but I would have thought that a school the size of UF would have this figured out but clearly from your interviews, it looks like this is not the case. You mentioned not having open ended questions but the first one was open ended and the others didn't necessarily have to be so I didn't think there was an issue here. Good job overall. You can find my interviews at http://taleemreflections.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2.html. Thanks.

  3. Matthew,

These are all great ideas!! I hate UF wifi more than anything in the world. You also did an excellent job with the interviews. I really hope you are able to pitch a solution to UF because it would be a million dollar idea. If you wanna check mine out the link is below.

  4. Hi Matthew, I agree with your second post! I can't agree with Travis ("hating it") because I am an online student, lol. It sounds like the students are very frustrated...I was really surprised by the responses in your interviews. You could probably afford to ask them a few more questions and/or dig a little deeper, maybe like how much they would pay for a better service or for software to get a better/consistent connection? This way you may find more of a need and expand on the concept! Good luck & great idea!!

  5. This is a great opportunity for you to follow up with. I am a junior in the business school and a lot of our classes are heavily online due to class sizes. I’ve also experienced issue with the network on campus while doing work. I think that having a second network as a backup or even as a first choice for many would be an excellent idea. Good job.
